Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Department of pharmaceutical chemistry has a commitment to provide the students with teaching and training needed to fully utilize the advances in scientific world and drug industry. Teaching at the Dept. of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is closely linked to modern multidisciplinary drug discovery. In addition, the teaching in pharmaceutical chemistry department deals with the synthesis, chemical and physico-chemical properties, decomposition reactions, incompatibilities, metabolism and analysis of drugs. Students are provided with many different science backgrounds, a rewarding and challenging program of study. Areas of active interest of us include drug discovery, organic synthesis of medicinal agents, natural products chemistry, prodrugs, drug metabolism.

The well furnished laboratories of department of pharmaceutical chemistry provide facility for practical training in pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry, synthesis and structural elucidation of medicinally important compounds and familiarize students with the modern methods of analysis and Good Laboratory Practice (GLPs) etc. Practical training is offered in pharmaceutical chemistry with well designed .experiments based on elaborate pharmacopoeia methods used for the analysis and quality control of drugs and pharmaceuticals.
